Patitos Room

A Day in Our Patitos Classroom – Spanish Immersion for Our Youngest Learners at West

The Patitos classroom is home to the youngest children at our West location, where every moment is an introduction to the rhythms, sounds, and joy of the Spanish language. Here, our littlest learners begin their bilingual journey surrounded by warmth, music, movement, and sensory exploration. The environment is calm, nurturing, and designed to support their earliest milestones—social, emotional, physical, and cognitive.

Music & Movement

Songs and rhythm are at the heart of the Patitos day. From “Jugaremos en el bosque” to “Vamos al bosque” and playful action songs like “En el bosque de la China”, children explore sound, rhythm, and movement while learning Spanish words and phrases. Instruments like rattles and shakers invite self-expression and encourage fine listening skills.

Language & Early Communication

Storytime introduces simple Spanish vocabulary through books such as El zorro y los amigos and Aventuras del bosque. Teachers use repetition, gestures, and expressive reading to help infants and young toddlers connect words with meaning. Sign language is also incorporated to support early communication and help children express themselves before they can speak fluently.

Gross Motor Play

Active play supports muscle development and coordination. Whether crawling through tunnels, climbing gentle steps, sliding down the slide, dancing to music, or doing the “Hokey Pokey,” Patitos children are building balance, strength, and confidence in a safe, supervised environment.

Fine Motor & Sensory Exploration

Our youngest learners explore textures, colors, and cause-and-effect through tactile activities. They paint on contact paper, stack and play with rings, explore manipulative toys, and shake rattles to hear different sounds. These activities support fine motor skills and engage their natural curiosity.

Cognitive Development & General Knowledge

Even at this early age, Patitos children are making connections about the world. They explore shapes and sizes with cylinders, listen to animal sounds, learn body parts in Spanish, and begin to recognize patterns through repetition. Simple sign language for familiar concepts helps bridge understanding and builds a foundation for verbal language.

Thematic Learning

Weekly themes, like El Bosque (The Forest), connect songs, stories, art, and play. Over the course of a week, children might hear forest animal sounds, paint with nature-inspired colors, move like animals in the forest, and read stories about woodland adventures—all while immersed in Spanish vocabulary.

In the Patitos classroom, each day is filled with gentle routines, playful learning, and meaningful interactions. These earliest experiences in Spanish immersion plant the seeds for a lifelong love of language and discovery.
